You’ve written and compiled an ebook. Now you have to decide how much to charge for it. Finding the right price is essential to the success of your product.
Charge too little and people will think it’s of little value, and they won’t purchase it, or even it they do buy your book, you will have to sell thousands of copies to get to the point where you can begin to see a profit. If you price it too high when compared with your competition, you will find yourself steadily lowering the price, which will cause you all kinds of new problems in the future.
For example, if you sell your ebook at first for $39.99, and later reduce it to $24.95, how do you think the people that purchased at the original price are going to feel? A little ticked off, don’t you think?
Choosing the right price for your ebook is one of the most critical parts of the marketing process. The first rule of pricing ebooks is to never underprice.
Determine the highest price your audience can afford, and then if you find your book isn?t selling, you can always reduce the price. Before you take that step, make sure you are promoting your book like crazy on the Internet and on websites.
The price should be aimed at bringing in profits, but you should never forget that price is one of the factors that people use in judging the value of your ebook ? before they buy it. So always start with the highest price, and then launch a mega-marketing campaign.
Pricing an ebook is particularly difficult because ebooks are a fairly new commodity. Since they are digital, the value of an ebook is as confusing as the understanding of what digital actually is to the average layperson. This means that we must look at ebooks in a different light in order to determine their actual worth in this brave, new cyber world.
Let’s look at the difference between a book in print and an ebook. A printed book is an object you can hold in your hand, store on your bookshelf, even hand down to the next generation. It is priced on factors such as paper stock, design and production costs, and marketing.
But the fact that unites ebooks and print books is that they are composed of ideas. It is the ideas in these books that have the ability to change, or possibly transform, people’s lives.
What do you think an idea is worth when evaluated against the cost of paper and ink? It is the IDEAS that are valuable! That is how you determine the cost of your ebook.
What should I charge for my ideas?
There are all different formulas and methods for determining the correct price for your ebook. Let’s begin with honing in on your ultimate goals. Decide if your goal is to get wide distribution and maximum exposure. This goal is aimed at drawing customers to your business or service, or to establishing the credibility of your reputation. If this is your main goal, you should aim to keep your price on the low side.
Some authors have even priced their ebooks at a profit loss to draw a high number of new customers. The key is to find a price that maximizes your profits and the number of books you sell.
This is an excellent pricing strategy if you are looking to acquire long-term customers. Long-term customers are extremely likely to buy from you again and again ? as long as the first ebook they buy is of exceptional quality and beneficial to the customer. However, if your book contains valuable information and more importantly NEW information, references, or answer questions about techniques then you should probably price it on the high end.
After you figure out your goal, you must figure out what your audience’s need is for your ebook. For example, does your book solve a particular problem? If it does, and solves it in a way that hasn’t been written about in one hundred other ebooks, you will be able to achieve high sales at a high price.
If your book solves a problem or answers questions in a new and unique way, you should price your book as high as you can go. You will achieve larger profits this way, but bring in fewer customers. Just make sure the question or problem that your book solves is one that is important and relevant to the majority of your market audience.
If your ideas are not common knowledge, or you are presenting a brand new technique, you will be able to sell books at a high price. Just be prepared for your competition to undercut you on price as soon as they hear about your book.
Keep in mind that the above pricing strategy is temporary. Eventually, you will cease to sell books at this high price. So figure out in advance how long you plan to offer your ebook at this high price, and when that time is up, change your pricing strategy.
If you want to see large profits over customer draw, aim for an audience that is looking for easy solutions to their problems at a low price. If your book is aimed at solving one particular problem rather than general advice, then you can charge more.
Start at the highest price the market will bear to bring in the largest profits, and plan to discount the book a number of times throughout the year.
Marketing Strategies
The key that unlocks the sales potential of your ebook is to find a single sentence that becomes your selling handle. This sentence states what question or problem your book answers and the benefits your ebook can provide.
Then be sure to use that sentence in every piece of sales and promotional material, and every time anyone asks you about your ebook. Besides promoting your books assiduously online, there are several other strategies that can help you sell more books.
One is to give something away for free with your book,such as a valuable bonus item. Or bundle several ebooks under one price, which lowers the price for each ebook if they were sold separately.
An effective technique for figuring out a price is to send out a survey to your current customers. If these customers have already bought an ebook from you, ask for their opinion in terms of price. Do this by creating a sales page for the new book, but don’t include a price on that page. Instead, add a number of links to survey questions that ask pointed questions to aid you in assigning a price to your ebook.
Another strategy is to test out prices by creating a number of duplicate sales pages with different prices on each page. Make sure your sales copy is exactly the same on every page, and includes your selling-handle sentence. Then figure out for each page the conversion ratio between visitors to your site and sales of your book. This will tell you what your optimum price is.
Ultimately, if you’ve written a book that solves a problem or presents a new technique, your book will bring in both traffic and profits.
So be sure to write that selling-handle sentence that sums up what problem your book solves and what the benefits of your book will be to the customers who purchase it. And then watch your market come to you!

This is a review that I surprised myself with, I expected this to be a product about…well - becoming an eBay Powerseller in 90 Days.
Strangely enough that is covered in the product that has been put together by John Thornhill, but it is actually much more than that.Anyone who has ever tried to get to powerseller status on eBay will understand the reluctance of most people these days even trying for it.
The daily trudge to the post office, the annoying looks and stares from the customer waiting behind you in the queue, wondering just how many boxes you have in that bin liner you are lifting to the counter scales…and that is all before you have worked out how much it has cost you in fuel, shoe leather, postage cost and eBay fees.
Is it surprising that only the thick skinned and extremely determined ever make it through?
It does make you wonder if they actually make a profit for all their efforts?
Well that is not what John Thornhill does at all. John has been steadily tapping into the information product market on eBay, which is huge!
He sells digital downloadable materials and thereby avoids any trips to the post office or the costs involved with mailing…in fact all he has are his eBay fees and PayPal fees.
It is obviouis John has a system in place that makes him money - as he has been trading on eBay for five (5) years and he happily displays his eBay ID - planetsms, and his positive feedback of over 13,000.
Basically it is easy to establish that John does very well from eBay. That said I would be telling fibs if I did not admit that I had heard eBay was no longer of use for making major profits from. Anyone who has looked into eBay mush have seen it’s critics, shouting loudly, that there is no longer any money to be made from selling e-books.
And yet here is John proudly displaying his ID and claiming he can help anyone get to powerseller in 90 days AND learn to duplicate his systems and make hundreds of dollars.
So can he?
Well an exploration of the package from the inside reveals right off— that everything stated on the salespage is actually included, there does not appear to be any hype over the products contained.
You see John is offering not just his action plan, but everything that anyone would need to follow it, except for your domain name, hosting account and your autoresponder account. He includes a host of tools and products including a fully built website, listing templates and literally thousands of ebooks.
It has to be said that although John adds new ebooks monthly, a good deal of the older ones would either be better left or completely updated…these are the ones you typically see people selling for .01 cent. Personally, I would not waste my time messing about with them - there is so many recent and very good quality products in the package that there really is no need.
Here is where it gets very interesting…
After you follow the step by step tutorials and get everything set up to sell the quantities required to achieve powerseller status, (by the way if you are looking for a quick fix - you will not find it here) The system does require manual input of a couple of hours a day for those 90 days. But given that anyone seeking to build a long term income online would be quite prepared for that anyway. Lets assume shall we that powerseller status is reached within 90 days.
John then goes on to continue teaching, and frankly this is what impressed me more than his initial package, yes it is impressive and yes it is comprehensive. Yes it delivers everything promised on the salespage, and yes it requires work and effort following step by step what one need to get done.
But John could quite easily have stopped at that having delivered what was promised, and yet he adds more instead. The breath of fresh air in the make money online industry that has grown around people constantly over promising and under delivering come from the lengths John goes to ensure his members have learned what they really need to know.
It does briefly mention on the salespage that there is a members only forum, but in all fairness every site have one of these now — the difference in the members forum is that John goes on to give more advice about maximizing profits through his Many Streams Make A River concept.
He says on his salespage that he will cover affiliate marketing, and that is done in the tutorials, but the forum seems to be a hive of activity not just from John posting his advice, but from the many long term members who have built their own businesses and have stuck around to continue to offer advice to the newcomers.
With over 2000 registered users and over 30,000 posts, it seems to be the most valuable resource of the entire package!
Having viewed the contents and quality of the posts, no question is left unanswered and no affiliate links or advertising are mentioned in any except for an ad section provided for members use.
Answer: In my humble opinion this is a definite yes! IF one is prepared to follow step by step and put in the work initially required to get there…
But as I mentioned at the start, having looked at the entire package, it is far more than just about ebay. It is about building a sustainable long term business online, incorporating many income streams, and giving all the advice, help and support needed for anyone to achieve these things…
Frankly this is quite surprising these days…But Very Pleasantly So…

Most of these packages are turnkey operations meaning that everything you need is within the one money making package system. From tutorials and training materials to the tools you need to kick off your business. It is all there. Other packages may have just the tools and know-how and you provide all the blood, sweat and tears to get it rolling. It is up to you to decide how much effort and time you have and want to put into your money making package.
There are a few things to look for when it comes to making money package systems, especially if you are not totally up on the latest computer technology or know-how to build websites and such. First of all, your package should contain a turn key website set up for you with all the tools you need to get started.
This is helpful when you have no knowledge of creating source code for websites or anything else that is remotely technical. Of course, some packages say that there may not be a need for your own website. It is all a matter of what money making package you choose.
Personally, I have found that without a website, you cannot compete with other network marketers. By the same token there are money making packages where you must do you own marketing and promotions.
It all depends on your skill level in these areas and whether you feel comfortable carrying them out on your own or not. But, it is much easier to market and promote if you have a money making package that guides you through these processes and teaches you how.
There are money making packages that require you to store inventory and then ship directly to your customer. However, most systems in which an actual product or service is being sold goes through the merchant themselves through an affiliate marketing structure where you can make very lucrative commissions on each sale.
What about getting leads and search engine placement? Do you have the Internet marketing know-how to produce these on your own? If not, you will want a money making package with tools to help you succeed in this areas as well. After all, without customers, you cannot sell yourself or your business.
The bottom line is you need to do your research into each money making package that intrigues you enough to want to know more. Seek out others who have participated in these programs and learn what they have to say.
